Victory for Old Boys
Both the Windhoek Old Boys men's and women's hockey teams lifted trophies at the BDO Wanderers Hockey Night League over the weekend.
The Hockey Night League, which took place on Friday at the Wanderers Hockey Field, was nothing short of entertaining.
In what was a very tight game, the BDO Wanderers men’s team took on WHS Old Boysin the final.
The Old Boys men's team came out guns blazing, winning the game 2-0.
Old Boys player Ernest Jacobs led his team to victory by scoring both goals.
"Wanderers gave us a run for our money, plus they beat us in the previous game, so it was a great win for us. Plus, I came from a drought to score two amazing goals."
Old Boys' captain, Counie Fourie, said it was a tough tournament.
"Our preparations were basically just mixing young players with national team players and that did it for us."
Gratitude
In the women’s hockey final, the BDO Wanderers women’s hockey team faced the WHS Old Boys women’s team in what was a thrilling match. Old Boys led the game by three goals, and the Wanderers fought back and scored two goals.
But that was a little too late, as the match ended in a 3-2 win for the Old Boys women's team.
Marcia Venter-Van Zyl, captain of the winning team, was a force to be reckoned with, as she took the top goal-scorer trophy after scoring six goals in the tournament.
‘‘I’m grateful for the award, but I would not have done it without my teammates,’’ she said.
