Winners dusted and done

Otis Daniels
The top-ranked team, Merrell Songlines, gave a good account of themselves and won the first-ever Expedition Africa Namibia adventure race in a time of 66 hours 27 minutes. The all-South African team of Kelvin Trautman (40), Lance Kime (33), Jeannie Dreyer (44) and Martin Dreyer (55) set the pace from the onset in the very demanding eight-stage event over an unchartered 490 kilometres in the Erongo Region and were the first to arrive in the wee hours of Wednesday morning at the finishing point at Swakopmund Sands Hotel. The Expedition Africa event organisers Heidi and Stephan Muller joined the winners in the photo. Sixty-eight competitors from 11 countries entered the multi-day adventure race which also serves as a World Championship qualifier. Teams still have until Friday to complete the gruelling challenge.
