Eagles lose momentum
The third International T20 match between Namibia (128 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs) and Zimbabwe’s Chevrons (129/2 in 17.1) on Saturday afternoon in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, did not deliver the goods for the visitors when they were overpowered by eight wickets in 17.1 overs with 17 balls to spare.
Captain Gerhard Erasmus won the toss and decided to bat first. They cheaply lost the wickets of openers Craig Williams (three runs) and Divan la Cock (14). Nicol Loftie-Eaton (28 from 23 deliveries) on number three was the Eagles’ best batter, with Erasmus (25 from 32 balls) hot on his heels.
Zane Green (20, 18 b), David Wiese (10, 12 b), Ruben Tumpelmann (three) and Picky Ya France (one) all fell victim to the Zimbabwean bowling attack. Jan Frylinck with seven and Bernard Scholtz (six) stood their ground until the last ball was bowled.
Finished in style
Meanwhile, bowlers Tendai Chitatara (3/28 in four overs) and Sikandar Raza (3/16 in four) both took three Namibian wickets while Wesley Madhevere (1/8 in two) got one to his name.
Madhevere opened the batting for the Chevrons with Innocent Kaia (19, 18 b, caught Williams, bowled Scholtz) scoring a whopping 73 (not out) from 61 balls. He smashed eight fours and one six to the border rope for his tally.
Captain Craig Ervine on three (6, 7 b, caught Green behind wickets, bowled Frylinck) were the only other casualties for the home team. Regis Chakabva on four with 24 runs (not out) from 19 balls (3x4) finished the guests' batting innings in style.
For the Eagles, Scholtz (1/25 in 4 overs) and Frylinck (1/21 in 3) took one wicket each with a ball in hand.
The fourth match of the day was scheduled to start over going to print. Full results will be available on the Sport Wrap, Namibian Sun and Republikein Facebook pages.
