Shalulile a clear favourite
PSL awards nominees announced
The DStv Premiership announced nominees for its 2021/22 awards, which will be held virtually. The award ceremony will be broadcast live on SuperSport PSL channel (DStv channel 202) and SABC on 29 May at 19:00.
Mamelodi Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns stars dominated the majority of the categories at the DStv Premiership awards, following Masandawana’s exceptional performances in the league.
Namibian international striker Peter Shalulile has been nominated for the footballer of the season category as well as the player’s player of the season and the MTN8 last man standing. Shalulile was recently named the premiership’s player of the month for April following a good run of form which included a historical back-to-back hat-trick.
The Namibian goal-poacher is currently the top goal scorer in the DStv Premiership with a spectacular 22 goal-scoring streak.
Impressive season
Meanwhile, midfielder Andile Jali featured as a nominee in five categories: Footballer of the season, player’s player of the season, midfielder of the season, MTN8 last man standing and Nedbank Cup player of the tournament after an impressive season which has seen him contribute exceptionally to the success of the Tshwane giants.
Defenders Grant Kekana and Lyle Lakay appeared in the defender of the season category while Aubrey Modiba was identified as a candidate for the Nedbank Cup player of the tournament.
Former player of the season Themba Zwane also made it to the list of nominees. The 32-year-old is a contender for midfielder of the season and player’s player of the season.
Co-coaches Rulani Mokwena and Manqona Mngqithi have been nominated once again after missing out on last year’s accolade in the coach of the season category.
