United secure first victory
At last, a win comes
Reho Falcon 1 led half-time with 11-6, but let the game slip in the second half.
Trustco United 1 on Saturday afternoon recorded their first victory of the 2022 rugby season in the Namibia Rugby Union’s Premier League with 35 points to 31 over FNB Reho Falcon 1 at Gemsbok Park in Olympia.
The visitors scored the first points in an action-packed encounter when fly half Franklin Busch slotted a penalty shot after kick-off. However, United showed their intentions a few minutes later when they visited Falcon’s goal area for their first of four tries in the match.
Busch brought along his kicking boots, converting two of his team’s three tries and successfully splitting the poles with four penalty kicks for his tally of 16 points.
The only difference between the two sides was United’s fourth try, which gave them the edge over Falcon.
Results
United 1's four tries were scored by JD Nel, Reinhold Benade, Pieter Janse van Vuuren and Eloff du Plessis. Three conversions and three penalty goals were scored by Oela Blaauw.
Falcon 1's 31 points were scored in the form of three tries by Jerome Schoeman, Joba Werner and Angus Human, while two conversions and four penalty goals were scored by Busch.
The game saw three yellow cards handed out to Johan Brockman (United), Kamaa Kajau (United) and Donovan Resandt (Falcon).
Other Premier League results
At the University of Namibia, FNB Unam 1 scored 37 points to 31 against FNB Wanderers 1.
Unam's three tries were scored by Derryl Wellman, Shareave Titus and Bjorn Kazondunge, while two conversions and five penalty kicks went to Aljarreau Zaahl.
Henrique Olivier scored one drop goal.
Wanderers' 31 points were scored in the form of five tries by Stefan Hattingh, who scored a brace, as well as Keanan van Wyk, Patrick Karsten and Ryan Coetzee. Three conversions were landed by Denzo Bruwer.
Wanderers' Cody la Cock and Unam's Rowan Jansen earned themselves a yellow card each.
At FNB Rehoboth Rugby Club, the host won by 20-17 against FNB Western Suburbs 1.
Rehoboth 1's 20 points were scored as follows: Tries (1): Geraldo Beukes; penalty tries (1), conversion (1), penalty kick (1), drop goal (1) all Beukes.
Suburbs 1's 17 points were scored by: Tjingairi Katjivi and Dumarcho Hartung's one try each; two conversions by Katjivi; one penalty goal by Justin Nel.
A massive four yellow cards were handed out during game-time to Rehoboth's Jeandre Loubser and Curtley Beukes and to Surburbs' Dhale Coetzee and Diamando Tjombe.
Reserve League
Kudus 2's 41 points were scored as follows: Five tries, two conversions, four penalty goals. Grootfontein 2 did not manage to score any points.
This while Rehoboth 2's 11 points were made up of one try and two penalty goals to Suburbs' zero points.
United 2 scored 29 points in the form of five tries and two conversions, while Falcon 2's 17 involved two tries, two conversions and one penalty goal.
With 24 points, Wanderers 2 scored three tries, three conversions and one penalty goal to Unam 2's 14 points (one try, three penalty goals).
