The brand new JAC T9 double-cab storms onto Namibian roads with its aggressive, imposing and soon-to-be unmissable grill while its bulging contours, luxurious finishing and incredible pricing are all equipped to impress.
Recently, the My.Na Cars people’s passenger princess Diana Master was shown the ample bells and whistles when Karl-Heinz Eisenberg of JAC Motors Windhoek took her for a test drive in this revelation in automotive experience.
This exclusive taste of the future of big bakkie boasting precedes the arrival of production line models, with the demo in Windhoek being one of a few available only in southern Africa and China at the moment, Eisenberg explained.
Arrival of the first consignment is expected in three to four weeks, he said.
Built upon proven tech
Whetting the appetite for the latest JAC offering, the T9 is made with the idea of giving middle-class customers an upper class experience, he elaborated.
Retaining what worked for previous iterations, JAC has built upon proven technology and incorporated advancements like its huge proprietary software-driven central console display, which takes advantage of familiar smart-phone operating approaches.
From the get-go, the T9 flexes with its fantastic LED headlights, its dominating appearance, its metal running boards, extended mud-flaps and its aggressive styling.
The 18-inch rims on all terrain tyres add to the impact.
“No matter where you drive, everybody looks,” Eisenberg said.
High-definition 360-degree all-around cameras provide exceptional awareness of where your automobile is, with cameras mounted below the side view mirrors allowing for visual confirmation of both front wheel locations, together or separately. In fact, the display switches to the relevant front wheel whenever you activate the indicator.
Excellent stability
Driven by its two-litre diesel turbo engine, able to kick out 125kW of power and generating up to 410Nm of torque, the T9 employs an eight-speed automatic gearbox which offers normal, sport, snow and eco drive modes. The suspension provides excellent stability, soft transitions over bumps in the road and confidence on the streets.
The loading bin measures 158cm in width and 151cm in length on the inside, providing for plenty of packing space. The tail-gate handle hides the rear-view camera and can be locked remotely using the central locking function on the key, which works from up to 50 metres away.
Open the sun-roof remotely, or spot your misplaced T9 with the Find-My-Car function, which causes the lights to flash and the horn to honk at the push of a button.
Once inside, the push-button bonanza continues of the flat-bottomed steering wheel’s two spokes, with multi-function buttons used to prevent clutter.
Quilted leather seats, heated front seats and plenty of leg-room even in the back emphasise the spacious luxury awaiting occupants of the T9.
“Everything feels up-market and of good quality,” Eisenberg said.
Safety features
The crystal shaped interior lights and the graphic welcome that the T9 displays on ignition make Master a happy girl, she said. Push the star button on the steering wheel to change the theme, which flows from the main display to the gauge cluster. Engage the ambient lighting and set it to pulse along with the bass of your favourite tune blasting through the top-quality sound from the entertainment system, if you want.
Blue or yellow themed gauge cluster displays inform about revolutions per minute, fuel consumption and the trip meter reading.
Wireless charging for cellphones is complemented with two front and two back USB ports, as well as a two-point 220 volt plug.
The under-elbow compartment can heat and cool contents and is very spacious. Air-ports allow air-conditioning to benefit back seat passengers.
Pockets mounted behind the front seats provide ample diversified storage and there is generous leg-room.
Safety features include ABS, traction control, stability control and six air-bags. The hand-brake engages automatically when appropriate.
