#JustIn: Govt renews Haib Copper licence
Deep-South Resources Inc. says the Haib Copper License EPL 3140 in the //Kharas Region has been officially renewed by the ministry of mines and energy of Namibia on Friday, 7 July 2023, and is valid for a period two years from the date it was renewed.
Pierre Leveille, president & CEO of Deep-South, issued a statement, saying “this is a very good news”.
In June 2021, the ministry refused the company’s application for the renewal of the EPL. At the time, the ministry said the application for the renewal of its EPL had been denied citing the Deep-South Resources’ “inability to advance the EPL to Pre-Feasibility and complete the proposed drilling programme as planned”.
Deep-South Resources’ then responded by saying it would “vigorously contest this decision by all means necessary”, adding that it “clearly demonstrated having met all criteria under the Minerals Act to justify the renewal of its licence”.
On Monday, Leveille said the board of directors and management of Deep-South “are highly pleased to be back at Haib”.
“With the scarcity of major copper developments on the horizon, Haib’s promise as a significant undeveloped deposit. We have begun preparations to commence the work programme and resume the development of the project as soon as possible,” he added.
